Bloggers use tools to communicate. A keyboard. A blogging application. Sometimes a dictionary. Moreso a camera. I like painting with words. Carving out a S P A C E to think, share. Ramble. Churn up positive energy.
The best part of attending the BlogHer06 conference was actually speaking with the bloggers, sans their tools. I was fortunate to share some space and extended dialog with some cool bloggers. You can hear the first set of podcast interviews here: Arianna Huffington, Guy Kawasaki, Mena Trott and Lisa Stone.
Some quotes I like:
"I love personal, raw, writing and people willing to be vulnerable... and authenticity, basically. I think we are so sick and tired of people who are over presented and focus group tested. Sound bites of politics have so dominated public discourse, I feel we are all drawn so much to people who are willing to speak the truth." - Arianna Huffington, Co-Founder of The Huffington Post
"I don’t want to be stuck into a little niche. I am whatever. I view myself as sorta like a whale and I take in thousands of gallons of water to find some plankton. And sometimes that plankton is a book. Sometimes it's a car. Sometimes it’s a camera. Sometimes it’s a new piece of software. I get most of my inspiration while driving." - Guy Kawasaki, Managing Director of Garage Technology Ventures
"We were these darlings, Ben and Mena, living out of our apartment, working on this product for free. And as soon as we wanted to make a business out of this (which we really did from the beginning), people started to turn on us, and it was very hard to have that happen. But over the course, I have so much thicker skin now, than I did five years ago. I had to." - Mena Trott, Co-founder and President, Six Apart
Let us know what you think. But no comments on the southern accent, please. There's a Jersey girl hidden in there.
