wow (n.) - An outstanding success.
During my concluding podcast interview with Lisa Stone, one of the three founders of BlogHer, she defined the BlogHer conference as "bootcamp for strengthening your own voice." I spent the past two days in conversation with an incredibly diverse and amazing collection of women (and a few brave men). The highlights for me?
Chic mommy bloggers balancing a baby on one hip and a laptop on the other. Appreciating a woman who started her own Hurricane Katrina direct support effort because she got stuck in a lot of red tape. The continuous clickety-click of keyboards and the ambient glow of Macs and PCs seated round a table like old friends. Coming to the realization that videoblogging can be a compelling agent for change when words are just not enough. (Oh, and that you need to read the Terms of Use before posting video on YouTube.) Tips on tagging and the secret behind google's attraction to blogs. Watching an Arab and an Israeli cultivate a friendship. Meeting "thoroughly-modern" Millie, an 80-year woman ignighting friendships around the world thanks to an open mind and a loving son. Loving the fearlessness of Arianna Huffington. Finding a view of the London Tube underground and an abstract painter working on a blog-to-be. Hugging my non-blogging friend and audio mastress Alice for bringing me into such an amazing experience.
This year's theme for the conference was "How is your blog changing the world?" My answer? No one blog (or voice) has the power to change the world, but a community of diverse voices speaking (laughing, listening) together with a genuine desire to connect, share, do good, and empower each other certainly does... conversation by conversation. (insert halo affect here)
Maybe more guys need to be blogging?

Thanks for posting this, Stephanie. I was sad that I didn't end up going but I'm glad to read inspiring summaries like yours.
As audio editor for the podcasts mentioned herein, I got a chance to really glimse the world that is BlogHer.
I must say, hearing these remarkable women talk about all that they're doing (and all that they have already DONE) is truly inspirational. I can only imagine what it was like for you Steph....good work! :)
WOW! You can't stop learning, sharing, celebrating. What would we do without your gifts? I love my Listen/Share dream team mates.
